The Nd:YAG is a crystal that is used as a lasting medium for solid-state lasers. It works in 1064 nanometers (nm)--a longer wavelength which makes it suitable with darker skin. Lasers like the Nd:YAG used in hair removal target melanin (pigment) or water in the skin. In Fitzpatrick skin types IV–VI, there’s significantly more melanin present not just in the hair, but also in the skin itself.
