Where Art Meets
Medicine. And Service
Meets Both.

Arta was built at the intersection of clinical precision, aesthetic vision, and the belief that how you care for someone is as important as what you do for them.

Why Arta

THE NAME

Arta is more than a name. It is our philosophy.

It draws from arte — craft, skill, and studied technique. Not decoration, not trend, but mastery earned through training, repetition, and discipline.

Aesthetic medicine, practiced at its best, requires both: an eye for form, proportion, and the individuality of each patient, grounded in biology, clinical rigor, and evidence. Art and science are not in opposition here. They work in tandem.

Arta holds that conviction in a single word. How a thing is done is everything. The technique matters. The consultation matters. The follow-through matters. Every patient who walks through our door deserves all of it, applied to them specifically. And that's what they get.

"Cosmetic dermatology is not just about aesthetics. It is not just about medicine. It is about both. And it is about service. How you do a thing is everything."  - Dr. Safiyah West, DNP

THE ORIGIN

Two Sisters.
One City. A Practice Built on Purpose.

Arta was founded by sisters and DC natives Safiyah and Aminah West, who grew up in this city and chose to come home to build something it was missing.

They were raised by parents who invested everything in them and their six siblings. Their father was born to a single mother and a half-blind immigrant domestic worker. He beat the odds with a full scholarship to Harvard, went on to become a charter school architect, housing policy advocate, and career civil servant, managing federal programming for the elderly. Their mother spent decades as a lactation consultant, doula, and maternal health specialist at DC WIC and Howard University Hospital, beloved by families across the DMV.

The West family understood that service to community and personal excellence are not competing values. They are the equal and non-negotiable.

Safiyah and Aminah grew up watching their parents show up for others with rigor and care. They took that with them. Safiyah went to Tufts, then Columbia, where she earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice after an early career in public health. Aminah went to Stanford, then NYU Stern, where she earned her MBA to accelerate a career leading strategy, growth and acquisitions in healthcare business. Both paths, different as they look, led back to the same place: home.

They returned to Washington with their expertise, their instincts, and a shared conviction that the people here deserved better access to exceptional, patient-centered, medically grounded aesthetic care.

Arta Medical Spa opened in 2023 and grew into its flagship presence in DC's West End at 2440 M Street NW. It was not built to be the biggest aesthetic practice in the city. It was built to be the most intentional one.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Preservation over correction. Personalization over trend. Patient over protocol.

We do not treat everyone the same because no two patients are the same. We do not chase trends because the best outcome for your skin rarely lives there. We begin with a clear-eyed assessment of where you are, where you want to be, and what your skin — your biology, your history, your aesthetic — actually calls for. Then we build a plan for that.

Begin Your Consultation

We see a limited number of new patients each month. When you are ready, we are here.
